Wildlife sanctuary hopes to stay open despite lack of funding

Story and Video by Chinmay Vaidya

Centro de Rescate Las Pumas is a wildlife sanctuary located 4.5 kilometers from Liberia, Costa Rica. Lilly Bodmer Hagnauer started the sanctuary as a rehabilitation center for jaguars and pumas.

The center also takes in smaller animals. Some of the animals will go back into the wild while others will remain in the sanctuary.

Now, Centro de Rescate Las Pumas is struggling to maintain the animals it has. Biologist Esther Pomareda said the center wants to stay open, but is looking into other options if it cannot operate.
